HONDA為紀念五十週年所推出的S2000，承襲S500、800一貫的傳統，S2000成為HONDA當代最具代表性的性能車款，2003年S2000進行小改款，其中美規車型為因應低轉速扭力不足的疑慮，將排氣量擴增至2.2升以改善此問題，經過兩年HONDA再次推出最新的2006年式美規S2000，於細部再作精進。
全新的S2000基本上外觀部分未有所更動，最重要的部分在於引擎追加Drive-by-Wire線傳控制系統，以及電子節氣門機制，主要目的並非讓性能增強，而是讓整體的油門與引擎反應更好，且為因應日益嚴苛的環保法令，2006年式的S2000於引擎排放部份也略作調整，使得動力數據有所變動，最大馬力修正為237hp/7800rpm，最大扭力則為22.4kgm/6800rpm，雖略低於以往車型，但整體性能未受太大影響。
而S2000自上市以來，優異的操控與駕駛樂趣，早已深受各界佳評，2006年式S2000再追加HONDA最新的VSA車輛動態系統，讓車輛動態的安全性再次提升，VSA車輛動態系統會針對車輛的動力輸出、轉向的角度以及煞車力道等車輛狀況，適時藉由煞車與動力輸出的控制，修正瀕臨失控的車輛。隨著2006年式美規S2000登場後，歐、日規車型也將跟隨其腳步進行改款，而於2003年引擎未提升至2.2升的歐、日規S2000，今年即將推出的2006年式全新車型，
動力系統預計將同步提升至2.2升，而於美規車型上追加的項目，當然也將出現於歐、日規S2000之上。
