HONDA Civic（3）-起源：1代Civic 1972年-1979年

正當TOYOTA的Publica和NISSAN Sunny在日本造成轟動，剛起步的HONDA二輪部門決心創造截然不同的產品，並將許多賽車經驗注入，小巧的Civic就在這種理念下誕生。
第一代Civic出現時，最早出現的是2門車型，當時採用的動力系統是一具全鋁合金排氣量1.2升的4汽缸SOHC引擎，最大出力54hp馬力。隨後為了因應日趨嚴格的環保法規，HONDA遂於這具引擎上推出當時獨步全球的CVCC科技，CVCC科技利用稀薄燃燒理論為基礎，追求的就是完全的燃燒與低廢氣排放。
在1973年推出的CVCC引擎即使在不加裝觸媒轉化器的情況之下，都還能夠通過1983年的加州標準，可以見得CVCC引擎的優異表現與設計，同時第1代HONDA Civic也是世界車壇中前置引擎前輪傳動國民經濟小車的始祖。從1972年推出開始，第1代Civic到1976年時就已經累積到全球銷售100萬輛的數字。
