日本車廠HONDA表示，氫氣燃料電池車的前途一片光明，並且以一語定江山的口氣指出，新一代大量環保車的大量生產，可能會發生在十年之間。HONDA總裁Takeo Fukui在日本東京舉辦的汽車工業會議中表示 :「少了燃料電池車，汽車工業可說是前途黯淡。」
Fukui在會議中播放了一段FCX氫氣燃料概念車的測試影片，他表示 :「我們投入相當大的心血研發燃料電池車。」日本車廠研發環保節能車的努力，全球有目共睹。目前廣受美國消費者喜愛的hybrid油電複合動力車，幾乎皆來自日本車廠之手。至於燃料電池方面，透過氫氣和氧氣的化學反應所產生的電力，唯一產生的附加產品只有水，可說是未來永續社會最值得期待的資優生。
雖然全球各大車廠著手研發氫氣車的不在少數，但一台車84萬美元的價格，的確是想要大量生產所無法跨越的障礙。HONDA計畫要在明年於日本和美國，以承租的方式，讓昂貴的氫氣燃料電池車上路。「我認為燃料電池車在十年之間，將會非常接近大量生產的局面。」Fukui說。
