HONDA差點成為MITSUBISHI一員，端賴第一代Odyssey

包山包海又包天空的HONDA，居然曾有經營不善還差點變成MITSUBISHI一員的年代，而挽救這家公司的可是中大型轎式休旅車第一代Odyssey！
不說你一定不知道，1990年代HONDA因銷售陷入苦戰中導致財務發生問題，甚至經由日本三菱銀行為仲介向MITSUBISHI提出合作計畫，然而要將本田宗一郎一手創建的HONDA帝國讓出，肯定是所有本田人最不捨也最不願意見到的情況，因此在1994年HONDA決定放手一搏，推出全尺寸的轎式休旅車Odyssey。
第一代Odyssey採用五代Accord底盤平台為基礎，擁有4750×1770×1675mm車體，但軸距增加了約11cm，因此創造出更為寬敞的車室空間，同時擁有Minivan高度與低底盤的配置，再加上頗有子彈列車造型的設計感，與直四2.2升引擎（145hp/20.0kgm），一問世就在日本市場造成轟動，每月銷售量已是4000輛目標的好幾倍，當然這輛車更因此挽救HONDA的財務危機，從此化解了HONDA成為MITSUBISHI臣屬的可能性，也讓HONDA進軍RV領域吃下定心丸。
正因為有了Odyssey的成功，HONDA開始研發轎式底盤休旅車的可能性，就在這樣的契機下才有CR-V的誕生。
