SUZUKI Wagon R日本汽車銷售總冠軍，HONDA Fit位居乘用車之冠

在日本要統計汽車銷售，就必須分為輕型車和乘用車兩個部分，所謂輕型車就是660cc的都會車，乘用車則是輕型車以外包含SUV、Minivan、房車等車款，而哪款車是當地銷售總冠軍？誰又是輕型車之王？何者又是乘用車榜首？答案分別由SUZUKI Wagon R和HONDA Fit奪得。
根據日本自動車販售協會聯合會所作的統計，2008年當地汽車銷售冠軍，第一名為HONDA FIT，比起2007年成長50.1％達174910輛，第二名為TOYOTA Corolla，比2007年減少2.1％為144051輛，第三名是TOYOTA Vitz、第四名為TOYOTA Crown，第五名為TOYOTA Prius，也就是說TOYOTA獨占二到五名。至於第六到第十名則分別為NISSAN Serena、TOYOTA Passo、TOYOTA Voxy、NISSAN Tiida、MAZDA Demio。而Prius之所以能擠進前十名，主要是受到2008年油價高漲所致。
而總銷售冠軍方面，第一名為SUZUKI Wagon R，緊追在後的是DAIHATSU Move，第三名則是HONDA Fit，前三名幾乎是輕型車和小型車的天下。而排在後頭的依序為DAIHATSU Tanto、TOYOTA Corolla、TOYOTA Vitz、HONDA Life、DAIHATSU Mira、TOYOTA Crown、TOYOTA Prius、NISSAN Serena、TOYOTA Passo、SUZUKI Palette、SUZUKI Alto、TOYOTA Voxy，前15名中輕型車就佔了七款，小型車也有四款，可見得日本消費者的購車習慣已經產生改變。
不過受到全球景氣影響，日本自動車販售協會聯合會預估2009年的銷售量將會明顯下滑，幅度恐怕在15﹪左右。
