卡通超時空要塞Macross Plus中的YF-21戰鬥機，藉由駕駛員腦波能控制戰鬥機，完全無須操作桿，就連油門踏板也省去，要發射飛彈、火神砲乃至變形成機器人，一個按鈕都不需按，這種只出現在科幻片中的科技，如今也運用在現實生活中，而且還能操作機器人…但是那個機器人呢？當然是HONDA人氣最旺的Asimo囉！
由HONDA旗下專事研究開發的HRI-JP（HONDA Research Institutes Japan），和ART國際電氣通信基礎研究所、島津製作所共同開發的腦機介面BMI（Brain-machine Interface），是全球首度成功使用腦波控制技術，利用腦波計EEG（Electroencephalogram）與近紅外線腦計測裝置NIRS（Near infra-red spectroscopic），將頭腦想的動作傳達給Asimo，讓Asimo能隨著控制者的意志做出任何動作，當然這對人工智能和機器人技術可算是一大突破。
基本上人類在思考時，是腦部微弱電波和血液變化而成，新開發的腦機介面BMI是運用戴在頭上的接收器，藉著腦部活動頭皮上的電位變化來偵測EEG、腦部血流變化等，經過NIRS後進行複雜的運算處理，再透過電腦程式將腦部思考的行為傳達到Asimo上，其過程之複雜絕非一般人能想像，若比起2006年發展的核磁器共振圖像fMRI（functional magnetic resonance imaging）裝置，更為小型化，能使用的地方也不再受到限制。
看來機器人上太空要完成艱難任務，短期內極有可能實現，如果能製造出巨大的機器人，最好能有火神砲、飛彈，在利用腦波進行遠距離操作，要征服世界的日子絕對不遠矣！
