在2005年問世的現行款Civic，按照週期來推算新一代應該在2010年-2011年左右出現，但隨著Hybrid複合油電動力車大為風行，HONDA不僅持續研發Civic Hybrid，甚至可能針對美國市場還要導入Civic Hybrid實行在地化生產計畫，而這可是HONDA頭一次在日本以外地區生產Hybrid車。

受到2008年金融海嘯衝擊及油價攀升，HONDA在美國市場的銷售量不僅創下新低，就連熱銷的Civic、Accord、CR-V也都遭逢打擊，反觀2009年問世的第二代Insight卻逆勢成長，從1-9月總計銷售29,958輛，比2008年成長了7.7﹪，以整體來看Hybrid似乎是能賺錢的產品，縱使HONDA曾在美國銷售Civic Hybrid成效卻不彰，另外受到匯率影響全數在日本生產製造的Civic Hybrid價格自然變得更貴，因此HONDA目前正在評估將Civic Hybrid導入美國生產，且連同IMA電動馬達輔助系統一併在當地生產，一來可節省成本，二來降低匯差的風險。

由於美國新車銷售今年恐怕減少至1,000萬輛的規模，且消費者對於高經濟性車款接受度與需求越來越大，因此對節能省荷包有幫助的小排氣量、Hybrid、柴油等乘用車都大受歡迎，在這樣的趨勢下讓HONDA評估投資Hybrid的可能性。所以這項Hybrid車在地化生產計畫將隨著新一代Civic出現而啟動，倘若一切都沒有問題，最快應該會在2011年左右於市場和美國消費者見面。
