澳洲HONDA等了許久的Insight油電車，終於將在近期內於當地推出。至於這台標榜著「價格更便宜」的油電車，究竟會與TOYOTA Prius在當地小型油電車市場上展開怎樣的廝殺，確實令人屏息以待。兩家車廠都視這兩台油電車為「中型車款」，許多眼尖的消費者更指出兩款車在外型上相似度近乎90%，Insight的設計師針對此一說法曾表示「基於空氣動力學的需求，在設計上會有特定的限制」。
Insight的風阻值為0.28，但若真的要與Prius正面對抗，眼前勢必有一廠硬仗要打。Prius不論是在澳洲或是在世界其他國家，在油電車市場上都已穩佔先機，除了Prius第三代即將於明年問世，世界第一大車廠TOYOTA也傾全力行銷這款熱賣商品。反觀Insight不但推出的時機較晚，其搭配的1.3L汽油引擎更小於Prius的1.8L引擎，整體的動力和扭力表現皆低於Prius。
此外，Insight的油電複合動力系統運作規模較Prius來得簡單，在HONDA過去推出的油電車上都可見到它的蹤影，甚至包括十幾年前就推出過的Insight三門車。不過這幾年來，這套動力系統也歷經整合改進，體積變小不說，HONDA也新增了「環保輔助」(eco-assist)的新技術，透過最佳的引擎運作狀態和培養良好的駕駛習慣，來提高汽車的油耗表現。
HONDA在研發全新Insight時，不斷尋求降低生產成本的方法，最後決定以新款HONDA Jazz為雛型，最終產出五人座的Insight五門掀背車，撞擊測試擁有五顆星的傑出成績。只不過關於油電車的安全表現仍有待觀察評估，有專家指出，油電車發生車禍撞擊時，容易發生電力系統短路的情況。另外由於重量集中在汽車底盤，在翻車碰撞測試中的表現仍有待改進。
