於日本泡沫經濟所設計的第三代CR-X，HONDA改變定位要以樂趣和拉風為訴求，所以1992年3月全新第三代CR-X現身後，同時冠上副名del Sol（西班牙語為太陽之意），也就是改採雙座Targa模式。

底盤結構同樣來自第五代Civic的CR-X del Sol，2370mm軸距比Civic的2570mm短了200mm，3995×1695×1255mm車身不若上一代的斜背造型，而是僅具備A、B兩柱設計，就為了能創造獨立的行李廂；此外，CR-X del Sol的最大特色在於採用電動車頂結構（美規版為手動），在Targa敞篷型態時僅須按下開關，收納於行李廂的車頂與行李廂蓋垂直上升，隨後自動水平滑至車頂處，車主只需扣上保險鈕即可，這樣的設計在當時堪稱話題，但也因機械結構增加讓CR-X del Sol車重達1030-1140kg。

內裝設計與Civic的最大差異，除了採用雙桶型賽車座椅設計，中控台與排檔座連成一氣，並經過巧思創造不少置物空間，以彌補車艙空間的不足。

動力則有1.5L（1493cc）SOHC和1.6L（1595cc）DOHC兩具PGM-FI噴射引擎，分別擁有120hp/14.2kgm、170hp/16.0kgm的輸出功率，變速系統則有四速自排與五速手排兩種選擇，前後雙A臂依舊是標準底盤配置；1995年小改款除了取消車頭圓形霧燈，1.5L引擎也擴缸至1.6L，輸出功率提升為130hp/14.1kgm。雖然CR-X del Sol符合年輕消費者的需求，可惜SUV當道且雙門跑車不再獲得青睞，因此在1997年停產，從此CR-X也僅能存在車迷心中。
