延續第五代的高經濟性傳統，第六代車型問世造型仍不脫前代精神的Civic，依舊以砲彈流線狀為設計理念，卻呈現更為銳利的稜角與折線。
稱為Miracle的第六代Civic，在車型上與第五代完全相同，除了四門與三門掀背外也包含美國HONDA設計的雙門車型，於2620mm軸距獲得4180×1695×1375mm（三門）與4450×1695×1380mm（四門/雙門）的車身尺碼，基本上比起第五代似乎長大許多，以三門掀背車型來說，車長就已經增加到4190mm，較第五代的4070mm多出120mm，所以在內部空間的爭取上效果不錯。
內裝配備與鋪陳依舊走個性化簡潔路線，同時將2DIN音響主機列為配備清單，動力方面共有1.3L SOHC直列四缸（91hp/11.6kgm）、1.5L SOHC直列四缸（130hp/14.2kgm）、1.6L SOHC直列四缸（120hp/14.7kgm）三具電子控制噴射引擎，並和五速手排與四速自排變速系統組合，同時在1.6L引擎還首度出現HONDA Multimatic電腦控制無段變速的CVT變速箱。
另外，最讓性能迷注目莫過於1998年推出的Civic Type-R。Civic Type-R是繼1992年NSX Type-R、1996年Integra Type-R之後HONDA的第3款冠上Type-R名號的作品，引擎系統方面是純手工製造、為賽道設計的B16B引擎，1.6L的排氣量擁有高達185hp/16.3kgm功率輸出，五速手排、桶型賽車座椅為標準配置。
2001年第八代Civic誕生之前，HONDA作出大膽的策略，將三門掀背移往英國並增加五門掀背生產，日本市場僅剩下四門房車，美國地區則有四門和雙門兩種型態，此一佈局堪稱Civic有史以來最多元也最具世界觀的嘗試。
