在2011年東京車展當中,HONDA發表了新一代動力技術-「Earth Dreams Technology」,展現出〝生態環境與工業共存〞的企業理念;事實上,近年來隨著環保意識的抬頭,消費者對於節能減碳的意識也越來越健全,造車工藝已不再只限於性能動力上的著墨,Hybrid技術運用的構築、小排量高動力的輸出表現也漸漸主導了未來車型導向趨勢,而Earth Dreams Technology則是HONDA對於環保風潮的最佳回應。

「Earth Dreams Technology」的新世科技計畫,乃是透過動力、傳動等系統的調校提升引擎的高效動能,預計將於3年內讓HONDA旗下各級距車款均達到最佳燃油經濟性的目標,而這項技術的第一款作品,就是HONDA多數歐規車型皆有導入的1.6L缸內直噴直列四缸DOHC柴油引擎,另一方面,也進一步衍伸出660c.c、1.3L、1.5L、1.8L、2.0L、2.4L及3.5L引擎,應用於HONDA旗下所有車款。

能達到性能與節能兼具的表現,必須歸功於HONDA獨門的VTEC(可變式氣門揚程)技術,藉由精確的油門、轉速監控試算出最精準的汽門正時開度,透過獨特的椎型可變凸輪設計達到全速域的動力提升;而在導入Earth Dreams Technology之後,新開發的DOHC引擎將採用更為橢圓的燃燒室搭配緞造凸頂活塞以及短軸密齒的曲軸軸心設計,預計能削去15%的乾燥重量;重新設計後的配重曲柄、凸輪軸、氣門連桿搭配VCM、VTC等燃油控制系統,使得整體燃耗效率有更好的表現。

除了引擎之外,Earth Dreams Technology也包括了傳動系統,全新開發的Earth Dreams CVT無段變速系統,著重於著重於變速飛輪與鋼製鍊帶的接合力道,藉著動態變速感應系統以及高感度油壓感知系統在面對不同路況下,都能依照個人的駕馭特性提供最完美的扭力轉換與動力傳輸;並透過G-Design Shift油門整合系統,給油、變速、轉換的完美連動,近乎無感的極致接合也將提供駕駛人更豐富的駕駛樂趣。
