被譽為未來汽車領域最重要科技之一的自動駕駛，可以說是車廠目前極力合作的重點項目，不僅眾家車廠表態參與，就連網路搜尋引擎龍頭Google也向準商機前來挑戰，看來如同地影廠景的自動駕駛走入現實世界已經是預料中的事了。

基本上目前一線車廠包含AUDI、VOLVO、NISSAN-RENAULT、BMW、M-BENZ、TOYOTA、VW、GM等眾家車廠都已經積極測試好一陣子，有些車廠甚至已經批准在美國部分州進行實測，而在此領域也有所著墨的HONDA，近日也宣布將透過產官合作的方式，以提升自動駕駛技術實際應用的可行性。

HONDA宣布與美國加州康特拉科斯交通管理局（Contra Costa Transportation Authority）共同合作，將在舊金山灣區成立專屬的「GoMentum Station」的自動駕駛實驗基地，以試驗自家科技勞不牢靠，並藉著實際上路測試的情形蒐集更多資訊以進行參數修正。

為了測試自動駕駛車輛投入實際路況的可能性，許多車廠都會與當地政府合作，在畫設的區域內才能進行自動駕駛車輛的測試，而此回HONDA與加州當局規劃的「GoMentum Station」場地，占地有5000英畝，內部模擬一般都會城市打造，提供了更為逼真的車輛環境，以加快自動駕駛投入量產並實際應用於一般路況的可行性，而HONDA將派出高級車品牌ACURA旗艦房車RLX擔綱此次自動駕駛車輛的任務，並配置新一代的AcuraWatch駕駛輔助系統、感應器、攝影機等配備。
