    挑戰雲霧之巔,HONDA賽車部門將以ARX-04b LMP2賽車挑戰派克峰爬山賽

隨著全球知名的24 Hours of Le Mans賽事剛剛落幕,許多車迷朋友想必都還對PORSCHE 919 Hybrid與AUDI R18 e-tron quattro在場上相互較勁感到印象深刻,然而在耐久賽事領域中除了最高階的LMP1組別以外,定位之下尚有LMP2與LM GT兩種賽車組別,其中LMP1與LMP2都屬於車廠所推出的原型賽車,擁有流暢的全覆式車殼與大型空力套件,LM GT則是以市售跑車為基礎所衍生而成的工廠賽車。然而在所有組別車款之間相同的是,這些工場賽車可說是專為賽道而生,於世界各地知名賽道角逐各式耐久賽事,並共同以24 Hours of Le Mans作為最高賽事殿堂。

然而HONDA Performance Development (HPD)近日卻做出一項相當破格的決定,表示將以期下最新LMP2原型賽車ARX-04b角逐美國知名的派克峰國際爬山賽(Pikes Peak International Hill Climb , PPIHC)。這是自PPIHC自1916年舉辦以來首次有這類碳纖維單體座艙原型賽車參賽,其所挑戰的組別也是其中等級最高的Unlimited無限組,除了在賽車安全方面有所規範外並不對賽車規格有任何限制,因此造就許多空氣力學造型誇張、馬力突破800、900hp甚至上看1000hp的怪物賽車,對比HPD ARX-04b從耐久賽場轉戰PPIHC就宛然誤闖狼群的野兔一般,令人好奇ARX-04b在派克峰的表現。

所幸HONDA Performance Development深知PPIHC賽事的困難之處,針對ARX-04b賽車進行額外調校,除了空氣力學將因應高海拔地區與長時間上坡而有所調整之外,動力方面也可望透過3.5L V6雙渦輪增壓引擎壓榨出將近875hp的最大馬力。然而這樣的馬力輸出全數交由後輪驅動設定,在駕馭上肯定需要相當的技巧與經驗,因此HPD找來前F1車手Justin Wilson操刀,期望能挑戰Sebastien Loeb於2013年駕著PEUGEOT 208 T16 Pikes Peak所創下的8分13秒878最速紀錄。

然而208 T16 Pikes Peak可是專為PPIHC賽事所打造、馬力重量比將近1:1的「四驅」賽車,且Sebastien Loeb也是從WRC出身且專精於山道的傳奇車手,因此不論是ARX-04b賽車或是Justin Wilson本身都面臨著非常嚴峻的挑戰。此外這場派克峰爬山賽所舉辦的地點處於高海拔地區,起點位於標高約2850m的山區道路、終點更是一路攀升至約4300m,平均坡度達到7%、最大坡度達到10.5%,堪稱是世界上最嚴苛爬山賽事。
