2015 HONDA先進科技之旅（7）：讓乘員與行人生命獲保障，POLAR III成就車輛安全的無聲

想要測試車體結構是否能完全保護乘員，最好的方法就是撞擊一下，雖說車體看似完整，但裡頭乘員能否毫髮無傷，那就得仰賴所謂的Dummy了，當然在技術越來越進步下，Dummy除了尺寸有各種區別，更裝上許多的感測裝置，甚至連材質密度都接近人體肌肉組織，而HONDA在Dummy的開發也頗有成就，像現在所使用第三代的POLAR III，讓HONDA對乘員和行人的安全生命更有保障。
過去車廠在進行撞擊測試時，多為真人或者屍體擔任實際測試，其結果自然是「死傷慘重」，隨著技術越來越進步，Dummy就成為最佳犧牲者；而HONDA自行開發的Dummy-POLAR系列，2008年已發展到第三代，也就是POLAR III，這是HONDA針對數量不少的SUV與Minivan所開發的仕樣，當然結構上也變得更精細，同時增添不少新功能，以讓所獲得的測試結果更忠於實際行人。
當所有車廠都著重在車室乘員安全時，HONDA就已經替行人安全作準備，1998年為了降低車輛撞擊行人時的安全性，首度開發出對應測試的Dummy-POLAR I，2000年則進化為更接近人體的POLAR II，於頭部、頸部等共計八處增加偵測器，但POLAR II是以一般房車為基準，時隔八年後HONDA再度開發第三代POLAR III，以符合現在用車狀況以及相當廣泛的SUV與Minivan。
基於SUV和Minivan的佔有率越來越高， POLAR III，其上半身基礎與POLAR II完全相同，改良重點在於腰部、骨盤、大小腿等人體結構進行提升，且根據一般車禍分析，行人的膝蓋韌帶部分多受嚴重傷害，因此HONDA也增加膝蓋韌帶的感應，以讓POLAR III更接近實際人體，並藉由撞擊測試中獲得更精確的數據，希望設計出更安全且對行人更有保障的車體結構與配備。
由HONDA自行開發的POLAR III可是機密所在，當然不會輕易公開秘方，所幸有這群無聲又無名的勇者們，任勞任怨地替我們在安全上把關，才能讓HONDA在蒐集最詳盡的資料後運用於車體和配備設計上，並提供給消費者最安全的行車保障。
