自1994 年 美國 Ward's AutoWorld 雜誌針對在美國市場上販售的車輛創辦 Engine Of The Year 年度引擎大獎以來一直都是歐洲美國車商的天下，日系車商幾乎摸不到邊，最近一次得獎的日系車是由 2010年 的 Toyota 1ZR-FXE（Prius的引擎）所獲得，不過在 2017 年裡，日系車終於出頭了，日本車商 HONDA 的 VTEC Turbo 1.0 三缸引擎，與 NSX 的 3.5L Twin Turbo 引擎打破了近六年來的沉寂。
在為期二個月的評選時間中，由 Ward's AutoWorld 雜誌所委任的評審每天駕駛候選車輛實際道路測試，針對引擎性能、油耗表現、噪音、振動與精緻、相關技術、基本數據等，做全面性的評比，最後再以投票方式選出當年度十大最佳引擎。而這次的最佳新引擎則是由日本車商HONDA 的 3.5L Twin Turbo 引擎所拿下。
HONDA 的 3.5L Twin Turbo 引擎，採用 75 度夾角及競技化的乾式油底殼設計，讓車輛在激烈駕馭時能有效降低車身重心，且仍能提供充足的潤滑效果。此外，渦輪系統增壓值則為1.05bar，而引擎壓縮比為 10.0：1，在搭配上電子式洩壓閥，以及大量採用鍛造的進曲軸、排氣門機構及活塞連桿等，讓他能輸出高達 500hp 的最大馬力，與 56.1 kgm 的最大扭力。
HONDA 歐洲研發部門主席 Hayashi-san 對此表示，我們很榮幸獲得這樣的殊榮。NSX 是 HONDA 旗下的頂尖車款，NSX 展示了 HONDA 在賽道上的熱情與承諾。我們很高興NSX得到如此高的評價，並獲選為本屆的最佳新引擎。
