當Focus ST、Golf GTI、Golf R，甚至是S3、A45 AMG等歐系品牌鋼砲紛紛出籠、搶佔新聞版面之際，始終是日系性能鋼砲代表HONDA Civic Type R其實也已經在紐柏林北賽道之中進行緊鑼密鼓的測試，正準備向其他歐系對手指名叫戰！

其實新世代Civic Type R的各種傳聞早在2012年初就被挑起，但總聽消息卻不見實車測試，讓不少車迷等了好些時日仍感覺遙遙無期。直到2012年10月底，HONDA社長伊東孝紳親自對外喊話，表示新世代Civic Type R確定會在2015年到來，更是引起車迷們的引頸期盼。

當歐規Civic WTCC廠車現身之時也等同宣告HONDA過往所標榜的自然進氣、高轉速的引擎特性，也將在新世代的Type R有所改變，順應趨勢轉往渦輪引擎的領域發展。事實上，根據最新的資料公布顯示，Civic Type R已經確定將採用2.0L的渦輪增壓引擎，並具備有280hp的動力輸出。

儘管要等到2015年才會正式登場，但是HONDA已經宣示要將Civic Type R推向「紐柏林北賽道最速前驅車」的霸主地位，換句話說像是Golf R、S3或A 45 AMG這些動力已達300hp門檻的車款，縱然馬力更強速度更快，但也因為採用全輪驅動的設計而有勝之不武之嫌，但是Civic Type R若是面對Golf GTI、Focus ST或是Megane RS等同樣採取前輪驅動的對手，卻將有著必勝的信心與優勢！
