    本田魂不滅,HONDA發表2014 Civic WTCC設計圖

自從HONDA調整方針朝大眾路線靠攏後,旗下的性能車幾乎消失殆盡,就連過去崇拜著那純粹駕駛樂趣的本田車迷們也相繼出走,碩果僅存的Civic Type R卻無法在節能和樂趣取得平衡,品牌形象已經和創辦人本田宗一郎的初衷背道而馳,一直到現任社長伊東孝紳接任之後,不僅重新尋回HONDA精神,更將經營觸角重新延伸至賽車領域裡面。

自1987年與ETCC(歐洲房車錦標賽)合辦的第一屆WTCC(World Touring Car Championship,世界房車錦標賽)賽事,不僅吸引了世界各國的好手與車隊來參賽,更與F1、WRC並稱為FIA三大賽事,經過大會討論後,WTCC宣布在2011年賽季開始,均改採1.6L渦輪增壓汽油引擎,取代原有2.0L自然進氣汽油引擎,除了進一步的提升燃油使用效率以及減少對於環境的衝擊影響之外,也吸引著許多車廠加入競爭的行列,令整個賽季的戰況更為精彩刺激。

HONDA雖然已經退出F1賽事多年,但相對於WTCC領域可說是逐漸的發光發熱,自2012宣布將以2輛第9代Civic歐規掀背車型進軍WTCC賽季以來便獲得不錯的成績,表現可說是可圈可點,然而在2014年的賽季到來之前,HONDA也針對旗下Civic廠車做出不一樣的調教工程,在大會針對參賽車輛的規範之下,在外觀部分僅以下擾流、側邊輪拱以及後方尾翼作小幅度的修改,以追求更佳的空氣力學。

因應WTCC的賽事規格,這2部Civic WTCC將搭載HONDA日本櫪木縣研發中心發表的HR412E 1.6L直列四剛渦輪增壓汽油引擎,並交由義大利J.A.S. Motorsport賽車部門進行全面性的調教作業,而負責擔任「Honda Racing Team JAS」廠隊的主戰車手,Gabriele Tarquini與Tiago Monteiro均是頂級房車賽事中的資深猛將,除了將持續掛上HONDA的旗幟在場上發光發熱之外,或多或少也替未來即將上市的Civic Type R宣傳造勢。
