誰說歐洲車「柴」省油？HONDA以柴油版Civic Tourer挑戰柴油最低油耗世界紀錄

由於市場屬性使然，如HONDA等日本車廠在小排氣量渦輪增壓柴油動力的著墨，無疑地腳步較歐洲品牌慢，但HONDA原廠正準備進行一項計畫，希望能打破金氏世界紀錄柴油最低油耗，以突破這種既定印象，證明HONDA也擁有一流的柴油引擎技術。
位於英國的歐洲HONDA公司RD部門的員工，Fergal McGrath與Julian Warren，將在6月1日從比利時的阿爾斯特（Aalst）出發，駕駛一輛搭載1.6L i-DTEC柴油引擎的Civic Tourer旅行車，依序駛往荷蘭、德國…，以順時針的路徑行經歐盟28國中的24個國家，僅有汽車無法抵達的英國、愛爾蘭、馬爾他及賽普勒斯被排除在外。
依照計畫，大約在6月25日時，會完成這項總里程達8500miles（約13,679km）的歐洲大陸駕車計畫，由於目標是打破金氏世界紀錄的最低油耗，因此過程必須在符合規範下進行。在旅途過程中，兩位自願參加的挑戰者必須都在車上並輪流駕駛，計畫每天開車7.5小時，單日平均完成592km里程。
為了保持破紀錄的公平性，車輛規格將和市售車型完全相同，且在出發前和完成後，都將由獨立公證人來進行檢查判定。唯一與市售車不同的，就是挑戰車輛加裝了TRACKER公司的追蹤裝置，可即時追蹤車輛位置，車迷們也能在挑戰開始後上網關心相關動態及計畫進度。
過程中所有步驟也將以嚴格嚴謹的標準來執行，例如在行經每個國家時，都會將每日的里程、油耗數據、GPS路徑、影片及照片等資料妥善記錄保存下來，並經過獨立公證人見證簽章，甚至為了避免以「減輕重量」等小手段來提升油耗，每次進加油站加油時都必須將油箱加到最滿，證明挑戰過程的公正性。目前尚未確定HONDA原廠希望打破的世界紀錄名目，但可預期的，將和「行經歐盟24國的柴油最低油耗」有關。
