1974年以進口車身分首度引進台灣曝光的HONDA Civic，可說是本土車壇發展史的一大功臣，因為這部堪稱國民車的交通工具，不僅為國內首部熱賣車種，並在1988年創下四天內接單5000輛的輝煌紀錄，同時它也是台灣血統最完整的房車。
過去的Civic之所以在台灣會造成轟動，除了高經濟性與獨特的外型與寬敞的空間外，最主要在於當時的社會環境所致，1978年中山高速公路全線通車後，隨著國民所得逐年提高，擁有購車能力的消費者大幅增加，Civic的推出打破了「汽車等於奢侈」的法則，開始進入消費者的家庭中。
1980年代末期，台灣股市出現空前的高點，瞬間一群消費族群大舉湧入購車潮，外型帥氣且人氣高漲的第四代Civic，自然就成為眾所追逐的焦點，也使台灣汽車市場熱潮不斷。不過從1990年代開始，因為其他車廠相繼推出頗具競爭力的產品，再加上國民消費觀的改變與休旅熱潮的興起，與亞洲金融風暴等因素，自第五代開始便與其他車款分食台灣1.6級距房車的市場，這也讓它從此陷入一場前所未有的苦戰中。
當第七代車型的問世，重新定位的Civic似乎對消費市場帶來不小的衝擊，過去熱血的族群已經為人父母，勢必要更為穩重，不是晉級變成Accord、CR-V車主，就是換乘進口車，而現行的第八代更將排氣量上調至2.0升，讓車格與定位全面升級。
放眼34年，HONDA Civic已經從過去的國民車變成價位不低的中型車，雖然市場買氣低迷，但依然能以穩健的腳步成長，或許HONDA的品牌形象與Civic魅力讓消費者做出選擇。
