肩負日系鋼跑唯一能與歐系對手相抗衡的HONDA Civic Type-R，隨著全新第九代歐規Civic在2011年法蘭克福車展中的現身，讓全球日系鋼砲迷對於新世代Civic Type-R的再現充滿期待，且HONDA社長伊東孝紳更是誇下豪語表示，新世代Civic Type R的開發將會以Nurburgring紐柏林最速前驅車型為目標，並計畫於2015年之前現身。

為了滿足社長所訂下的目標，加上現今排放法規的日趨嚴苛，因此外界早已猜測新世代Civic Type R將改為採用渦輪增壓動力，加上在今年7月間所發表為因應WTCC賽事新規、代號HR412E的1.6L直列式四缸渦輪增壓汽油引擎，更讓人更加確信渦輪增壓系統的入注勢在必行，根據本報了解、新世代Civic Type R將搭載代號AP3的2.0L直列四缸引擎，在缸內直噴與渦輪增壓等技術的挹注下，最大馬力也將上看300hp的水準，搭配六速手排變速箱，並強化底盤懸吊、強化機械式LSD限滑差速器等作法。

此外，據傳HONDA目前正在研發一具新的8速手自排變速系統，至於未來會不會應用在Civic Type R上目前仍不得而知。未來新一代Civic Type R在2012年推出的目標就是要挑戰素有綠色地獄之稱的德國「紐柏林賽道」，目標超越目前擁有8分07秒97紐柏林最速前驅市售車紀錄的RENAULT Megane RS 265 Trophy，成為車壇前驅鋼砲的新霸主，令人十分期待未來新一代Civic Type R的問世。
