HONDA Civic（1）-貫徹全民的車、最好的技術

2002年7月1日對於HONDA Civic來說，是一個意義非凡的日子，因為在30年前的同一天，第一輛Civic在本田宗一郎的一聲令下開始在鈴鹿的工廠正式投入生產，當時誰也沒有料想到這樣一輛小車，日後將成為全球車壇不敢忽視的一項作品，回想當時連VW最驕傲的Golf都還沒出現呢！
1972年的7月是Civic正式投入生產線的月分，並且在同年8月31日開始在日本銷售，同時也外銷北美與歐洲，從此Civic車款從1972年到2002年之間，歷經了7次的車型改款，在車型變化方面，也從最早期的3門、5門掀背車發展出4門房車、旅行車、雙門Coupe車、敞篷車、甚至是4輪傳動的多功能休旅車。
HONDA Civic從1972年開始，已經在全世界銷售了1400萬輛以上的各式同型車，銷售的地區，也超過100個以上的國家，光是在歐洲方面，就有200萬以上的數量。除了在銷售數字方面有傲人的數字之外，HONDA Civic在科技上的投注，也是世界其他車廠對於旗下同級車所望塵莫及之處。
從1972年正式問世以來，每一次Civic車型的世代交替，HONDA工程師就會為每一款新車型賦予領導世界的一流高科技，雖然Civic只是入門的實用車型，但是宗一郎的精神「全民的車、最好的技術」在Civic上完全貫徹。
