打著My Maxima、Mega Minimum口號的7代Civic出現，意味著HONDA又將邁入另一個世紀的開始，強調科技與人性化共存的本田技研，為了將車與人之間的距離更為縮短，遂在新車型開發上投入無限的精神，就是為了創造出一部符合時代潮流的大眾車。
HONDA Civic演變迄今，Global Civic可說是改變最大的一款車型。為了因應全球用車習性的改變，所以Global Civic在許多設計上完全屏除過去的成功經驗，為的就是重新設計出一輛適合千禧年的全新車型。
7代Civic首先導入的就是新一代HONDA安全觀念G-CON結構科技，在安全性上、尤其是撞擊保護上的表現更加優異；另外行之有年的前後雙A臂懸吊系統也被前麥弗遜、後雙A臂的新一代HONDA底盤設計取代，至於在Type-R精神的延續方面，則是首次由英國HONDA主導設計3門掀背車型與Type-R車款，在Type-R動力系統演進為K20系列，在排氣量方面加大至2.0升，有最大200hp馬力的表現，更是新一代HONDA自然進氣科技的結晶。
