今年世界最佳車款獎項，由BMW 3系列於最後一輪的選評中，在46國際汽車記者的一致認可下，擊敗MAZDA MX5和PORSCHE Cayman S，成為紐約車展上最耀眼的一顆星。
從最初的27台參賽車（包括HONDA Civic、Range Rover Sport、LEXUS IS、M-BENZ S Class和M Class，以及VW Passat等等），到最後脫穎而出的三輛入圍決賽的車款，這次選評實在不是件簡單的工作。
去年第一屆世界最佳車款的優勝車是AUDI A6，今年BMW登上冠軍寶座又做何感想？BMW北美的總裁Tom Purves對此殊榮感到欣慰。他表示要在同類車款中找出最佳代表作，比推出一台新車還要難上幾倍。而第五代的3系列能夠獲得評選委員的推崇，對BMW更是一大肯定。
其他車廠雖為拿下最佳車款的頭銜，但也不至於空手而歸。PORSCHE Cayman S獲選為「世界最佳性能車」，CITROEN C4則拿下「世界最佳設計車」的殊榮。至於誰又獲選為「世界最佳環保車」呢？HONDA Civic Hybrid顯然是評審眼中的最佳代表作。
