HONDA獨門武器VTEC

在21世紀身為HONDA車款，如果沒有配置VTEC引擎，那肯定無法賦予血統證明書，因為VTEC等同於HONDA已經是不變的鐵律，然而到底什麼是VTEC呢？這東西有什麼作用？

所謂VTEC，就是Variable Valve Timing/Lift Electronic Control System的縮寫，寫了一長串英文翻譯成中文就是：可變氣門正時與揚程電子控制機構，由字面上就可非常明顯的知道，VTEC就是藉由改變點火正時（進、排氣重疊時間）；氣門揚程（氣門開啟深度、進氣量不同）來適應車輛的行駛需要。

首先不論單凸輪軸還是雙凸輪軸，eVTEC是與VTEC算是同時被開發出來的產品。以每缸4氣門為例（兩進、兩排），eVTEC是在低轉速時，採用只有一個進氣門與兩個排氣門的運轉方式，以保持較佳的扭力及油耗。當需要高馬力與速度時（高轉速），eVTEC就會同時開啟2個進氣門，提供較大的進氣量，同時氣門重疊時間也會增加，以利引擎高轉速時的大量進氣及快速排氣。

因此HONDA旗下只要配置VTEC引擎者，其中低轉速區域時一進氣門全開，另一進氣門微微開啟（使用中、小兩種角度的凸輪），並產生進氣渦流，增加燃燒效率並提高扭力，高轉速時則以高角度凸輪同時開啟兩個進氣門（開啟角度一樣），增加進氣效率，有效提升馬力。

VTEC可以算是HONDA的獨門招牌，藉由固定的轉速開啟油壓推桿動作，同時可變換進氣氣門的正時與揚程，不過它的缺點就是在於固定轉速而非線性多變，於是最新的iVTEC，就是會透過錐形可變開啟時機機構，讓任何轉速區域皆能擁有VTEC的功能，且還分為三階段作動，不但能節省油耗、降低污染，更能有效提升功率輸出。
