    日本第一具五缸引擎,Made by HONDA!

相信大家都知道,世界上第一個採用直列五缸20氣門引擎的車廠,就是德國AUDI,而北歐的VOLVO也曾有過這種動力,但在日本,只有HONDA敢做這種嘗試,並一直活躍到1995年。

為了和TOYOTA Mark II相抗衡,HONDA在1989年藉由全新改款的Vigor(Accord的兄弟車),將當時所研發的直列五缸SOHC20氣門引擎,以縱置方式擺在Vigor的引擎室內。這具日本動力技術一大躍進的引擎,排氣量1996cc,最大輸出馬力和扭力為160hp/6700rpm、19.0kgm/4000rpm,和直六的輸出功率不相上下;同時代號G20A也打破橫置式設計,為全球第一具縱置五缸引擎。

HONDA當初之所以開發縱置直列五缸引擎,最主要是希望能讓車體獲得更佳平衡配重,以前橫置引擎前輪驅動的車款來說,前方的重量必然比後方來得重,因此改成縱置後,將有效改善前後配重比,讓Vigor擁有更好的操控性,當然駕駛安全性也有明顯提升。

或許是當時的技術尚未純熟,再加上開發成本比六缸引擎來得高,1995年也隨著Vigor的消失而不再出現。
