    HONDA有史以來最艱困的賽事-1955年淺間機車賽

日本有了真正舖上柏油路面的賽車比賽是在1960年代以後,在這之前幾乎都是在砂石路進行,HONDA的HSC車隊就是在這種惡劣賽事中逐一打出名號。

1955年第一屆全日本機車耐久賽事-淺間高原賽事開辦,是從群馬縣淺間山麓的北輕井澤國道146號,到淺間牧場內長達19.2公里的封閉道路,全部都是石頭、砂礫的路面,騎乘在上頭根本沒有舒服可言,可算是相當克難的賽車場地。擔任HSC車手的谷口尚已,1952年進入HONDA後任職於琦玉縣的白子工廠,擔任所有新車出廠前的檢驗工作。爾後他成為HSC的專任車手,並進行曼島TT賽事的專用賽車開發工程。

所以在第一屆全日本機車耐久賽事中,為了測試車款性能,本田宗一郎下令參加125cc、250cc、350cc、500cc全部級距賽事,並投入HONDA Benly J、Dream SA、SB等所有市售車款,為了就希望能在比賽中獲得好成績。

然而事與願違,因為過度調校和極端的輕量化,導致HONDA賽車大軍在淺間賽事敗北,更輸給勁敵YAMAHA,谷口尚已參加的250cc級更落後第二名五秒之多,中途還兩次摔車,甚至在到達終點時因為煞車衰退失靈,谷口尚已就騎著Dream SAZ直直往淺間郵局局長家中衝過去,幸好及時閃避沒有釀成災難。雖然HSC在比賽中慘遭滑鐵盧,然而高昂的鬥志卻讓其他車廠致上最高敬意,當然HONDA全體依然不氣餒,在本田宗一郎的鼓勵下積極參加更多賽事。
