NISSAN日產汽車接連多年的營運失利，獲利大幅衰退，正處於風雨飄搖之中，根據《日經新聞》（Nikkei News）周二的報導指稱，NISSAN正計劃就與HONDA合併之事進行談判，以便能在瞬息萬變的全球汽車行業中維持競爭力。
根據外電報導，HONDA本田汽車和NISSAN日產汽車正在考慮合併在一家控股公司下營運，並且雙方將很快就會簽署一份備忘錄。他們還希望最終三菱汽車也納入這間控股公司的麾下，NISSAN是三菱汽車的最大股東，目前持有三菱 24% 的股份。
根據《日經新聞》報號賻，日產、本田和三菱三家車廠未來合併之後的企業，年銷量將會超過 800 萬輛，這將使該公司有可能躋身為全球最大的汽車製造商之列，但仍會在日本汽車製造龍頭TOYOTA集團之下，到 2023 年TOYOTA集團年銷量達到1,120 萬輛，而德國汽車製造商福斯汽車集團為920萬輛，而福斯牛前正面臨銷售喚幅衰退。
針對相關的報導，HONDA和NISSAN既沒有證實也沒有否認，HONDA只表示，報導的內容不是我們公司發布的。目前的情況正如今年 3 月雙方宣布的那樣，HONDA和NISSAN正在探索未來合作的各種可能性，充分利用彼此的優勢。我們將在適當的時候向我們的利益相關者通報任何最新情況。
