HONDA 1300
|
由於日本經濟高度成長始於1960年，而此時HONDA為了實現便利個人化交通工具的夢想，開始著手進行便宜好開又方便的四輪汽車，1962年的輕型貨車T360、1963年的小型跑車S500陸續問世，兩者所代表的意義包含精緻技術提昇與真正日本小型跑車設計功力，T360採用雙凸輪軸引擎在當持堪稱創舉，而S500則由本田宗一郎親自設計，8000rpm高轉速就此成為HONDA引擎的標準。兩款車在60年代初期宛如旋風般，橫掃整個市場。

為了提升整體形象，並展現傲人的技術，HONDA於1964年宣布進軍F1賽事，1965年在墨西哥賽事中拿下優異成績，這點就連最會銷售的TOYOTA也作不到。
1967年，HONDA發表輕型車N360，雖然只是單純的小型車，卻十足代表日本汽車技術，因為前輪驅動前置引擎的設計和自排變速系統，都是革命性的創舉，尤其又將非常高檔的天窗列為選用配備，才推出即造成轟動，短短三個月內便拿下銷售冠軍，直到1970年都連續成為市場的熱銷車款，就連TOYOTA Publica也無法媲美。而HONDA對於創造夢想，遠不同於其他獲利當前的大廠，因為本田宗一郎的堅持，才能將許多科技帶給消費者。
1969年，成立小型車部門，HONDA 1300 77/99系列登場，雖然排氣量增加，但採用空冷引擎而噪音較大的缺點，讓這款車陷入銷售困境，其實這和本田宗一郎本身有關，因為在HONDA，幾乎所有開發事務都由本田宗一郎決定，要求空冷引擎也是他的堅持，因而與市場發生分歧，導致企業內部出現不同的聲音。所幸在經過長時間的協調後，終於決定開發水冷引擎。
同時，為了提振日本國內賽車運動，並擁有自己的試車場，1963年由HONDA獨資的鈴鹿賽車場完工，並舉辦許多當地大型比賽，除了可藉機測試自家產品的能耐，也可順便取得其他對手車輛的數據，來提升本身的戰鬥力。
