2006年歐規版新Civic，搭載2.2升HONDA自行開發柴油引擎

歐洲市場向來是HONDA急欲拓展的地區，尤其是當地使用柴油引擎比例相當高，若沒有優異的動力心臟，顧客根本就興趣缺缺，也因此HONDA計畫從2005年起將2.2升柴油引擎列為車款的重要配置，同時2006年新一代Civic則取消現行的1.7升柴油引擎，改以2.2升來替代。
HONDA社長福井威夫於2004年12月20日的記者會中表示，2005年計畫擴充柴油引擎車款的陣容，尤其是2006年即將於歐洲生產的新一代Civic，將採用自行開發的2.2升柴油引擎。
目前HONDA Civic於歐陸所使用的1.7升柴油引擎，是由日本ISUZU所開發生產，在成本考量與市場需求，並維持品牌形象，決定自2006年起改為搭載自家研發的2.2升柴油動力心臟。目前這具引擎已經裝置在歐規Accord上，從年初到今天該車款在歐洲的銷售量已經突破兩萬台，也就是說此具柴油引擎頗能符合消費者的需求。同時福井威夫社長也表示，歐規版Civic在過去因扭力不足的詬病，將從新車型開始一掃陰霾。除此之外，2005年式的CR-V、FR-V也都將2.2升柴油引擎列入產品陣線中。
