市場競爭激烈無法承受，HONDA決定結束太陽能電池事業

以發動機起家的HONDA，於2006年在日本鈴鹿廠和熊本廠加裝太陽能供電系統，而這些太陽能電池板都是由HONDA Solar Tech所負責，然而經過七年的時間卻不敵市場削價競爭，因此HONDA決定在2014年結束太陽能電池事業，最終供應到同一年的2月。
位於日本熊本縣的HONDA Solar Tech，是HONDA旗下百分之百的投資事業部，其所生產製造的太陽能電池板，全都由HONDA Solar Tech自行開發，且這些新世代大自然能源供應裝置，不僅輕薄，且採用由銅等物質所構成的CIGC化合物薄膜材質，比起過去結晶矽膠，製造過程所消耗的的能源幾乎可節省一半以上，因此對於成本和環保都有莫大幫助。這對HONDA來說看似前途一片光明，應該可增加不少收入，實際上並非如此簡單。
因歷經金融海嘯、日幣匯率飆升等衝擊，加上能源危機所帶來的傷害遠低於預估，使得HONDA Solar Tech承受不了市場競爭的壓力，因此在2013年便傳出HONDA有意止血，如今在2013年11月確定將停止太陽能電池事業的運作，時間點從2014年第一季起，也就是說最終接受訂單時間為2014年2月中旬，之後就不再供應市場需求。
所幸對HONDA來說，在太陽能電池事業的投資金額並不大，因此能及時止血也算是明智，尤其面對來自韓國、台灣、中國的競爭，售價偏高的日系廠商似乎都沒有什麼獲利空間，或許接下來就好好地將重心擺在主業上，否則怎對得起創辦人本田宗一郎呢？
