2013東京車展搶先報：個人移動工具再進化，HONDA UNI-CUB β更輕、更小、更靈活

台北市政府交通局為推廣民眾騎乘自行車作為短程接駁交通工具，推出了所謂微笑單車Ubike的租賃系統，設置在捷運站、學校等通勤族的主要集散地，靠著便利性、合理的收費、簡易的電子化操作平台，蔚為一股風潮，甚至許多人潮眾多的站點經常缺貨，造就了都會短程移動的代步工具似乎有其商機存在；但身為科技大國的日本更是詮釋了「科技始終來自人心」的理念，諸如TOYOTA Winglet或是HONDA UNI-CUB就是在這樣的設計理念下誕生的都會短程代步工具。
早在2009年東京車展時，HONDA便推出宛如有輪子板凳的個人交通工具U3-X概念版，其實與Segway的概念相仿，都是利用陀螺儀技術保持平衡，身體傾斜角度和重心則控制速度與方向，藉由身體重心調整成等速；2012年推出更精進的版本UNI-CUB，還可藉由了智慧型手機操作，並率先展示於日本科學未來館，還可用來當作導覽員在諾大的展館中穿梭的代步工具。
歷經了一段時間的測試後，針對受試人員的意見進行改良，HONDA也在近日宣布了更進階版的UNI-CUB β，依然是採用HONDA獨自開發的平衡控制技術（來自ASIMO）與全方位驅動車輪結構（HONDA Omni Traction Drive System），不過將原先的520×825×745mm尺碼大幅調整為510x315x620mm，並且在材質上也輕量化，減輕至25公斤，體積更小、重量也更輕，提供更為輕巧、靈活的移動方式，同時收納空間也更為便利。
另外，採用鋰離電池為動力源，充飽電後續航力為6km，極速6km/h略比人步行速度快一些，僅應用於無障礙空間或是室內環境，相信對於展館導覽員、捷運、地鐵的接駁工具、巡視工廠、展間、表演廳的代步工具，都是相當智慧又省力的代步工具。
