對於持續受到破壞的環境，大部分車廠都不斷在改善其新車環保性能﹔然而有多少車真能做到零污染呢，答案是─應該沒有，即使是人力腳踏車，在製造過程以及回收上也多少會造成污染。不過以汽車來說，最直接的污染應該是廢氣排放吧，所以主要的環保訴求，也是以此為主。
那誰是最環保的車款呢？如果以廢氣排放來說，那應該是HONDA Civic Hybrid吧﹔2003年式的HONDA Civic Hybrid燃料電池混合車，是首度獲得加州空氣資源委員會CARB（California's Air Resources Board ）所頒發的AT-PZEV認證（Advanced Technology Partial Zero-Emissions Vehicle﹔幾近零污染車種）的燃料電池車款﹔加州的廢氣排放標準也是全球最嚴格的地區之一，這也為HONDA在環保科技上的諸多領導成就再記上一筆。另外HONDA的天然瓦斯車Civic GX也同時獲得了AT-PZEV這項認證榮譽。
要達到AT-PZEV的標準，不是那麼容易的，首先必須經過SULEV超低污染車種認證，並且還要提供15年/24萬公里的廢氣排放保證，才能進一步接受AT-PZEW的認證審核，非常不容易。而為了公司保持在環保上的領先地位，HONDA不斷地挑戰通過新的排放法規，所有的HONDA 2003年式車款也都通過了LEV低污染認證。
目前2003 HONDA Hybrid已經開始在美國加州販售，它的廢氣排放跟傳統汽車相比，大約少了百分之九十，不但在空氣品質的改善上有相當的助益，對於燃油的經濟效率也提供了極佳的表現。Civic Hybrid是由Civic Ferio所衍生而來，配置1.3升VTEC引擎，可輸出85hp/5700rpm的馬力，藉由IMA動力整合輔助系統，每公升汽油可行駛將近30公里。
