在Hybrid的整套系統中，最主要的部分莫過於IPU（Intelligent Power Unit）智慧動力控制組件，如今HONDA成功地開發出更小型化的IPU，並預計將這套系統先裝載於2009年Hybrid車款上，位置呢？就在後座底盤下方。

雖然TOYOTA目前為Hybrid的龍頭，但HONDA可是在後頭直追，不僅獨立開發Hybrid專用系統，甚至連電池組也不假他人之手，所以在經過長時間的研發後，體積只有69公升的Hybrid專用IPU智慧動力控制組件就此誕生。這套系統中共有分電器、電池與分電器ECU控制組件、冷卻風扇所構成，無論重量和體積都較過去輕巧許多，因此裝在Civic Hyrbid上並不會佔用太多空間，當然HONDA工程師準備將IPU置於後座下方，如此一來可讓行李廂維持既有水準，也不影響乘坐舒適性，且在低重心設計下更能確保駕控穩定性。

根據瞭解這套IPU系統將於2009年初率先裝載於Hybrid專用車款上，也就是全新的產品上，動力上為一具直四1.3升汽油引擎與電動馬達的組合，形成HONDA獨創的IMA Hybrid系統，平均油耗可達每公升31公里左右，且價格比起TOYOTA Prius更低，約莫在新台幣64萬元左右，車型上為五門掀背設計，但擁有新一代HONDA標準的六角型水箱護罩。

所以在2008年底的洛杉磯車展中，這款Hybrid車將會率先出現，且在HONDA 計畫中將陸續推廣至日本與歐洲市場，當然全新又輕量小型化的IPU自然就成為焦點。
