GM備受矚目氫氣車CHEVROLET Equinox最近已出現在少數參與試駕活動民眾的家裡。除此之外，HONDA和BMW的氫氣燃料車款，現在也進入測試階段。
Equinox的壓縮燃料箱裡可存放4公斤的氫氣，在燃料電池裡與氧氣產生化學變化，製造出電力和零污染的副產品，水。雖然在某些情況下會有爆炸的危險，但應用在汽車上的危險性等於零，原因在於就算發生氫氣外漏事件，氣體也會被空氣稀釋，不足已構成威脅。
Equinox的試駕者之一Tom Albert在短短兩個月內，已駕車行駛了2300英里的距離，他對於這台氫氣燃料車相當愛不釋手，「試用」至今，他認為唯一的問題是氫氣燃料加油站實在太少了！因此會受到續航力200英里的限制。Albert居住在首府華盛頓，當地只有兩個加油站有提供氫氣燃料。
據調查顯示，若以汽油車的標準來看，Equinox的油耗表現相當於每加侖43英里。雖然氫氣燃料車「號稱」是零廢氣排放量車款，但目前提煉氫氣燃料的技術仍會對環境造成傷害。大部份的氫氣來自石油，提煉的過程中會製造出二氧化碳。因此現在的目標是要用可再生資源提煉。
除了CHEVROLET Equinox之外，HONDA FCX Clarity氫氣車，也以一星期600美元的價格，出租給加州200名的民眾試用。雖然網路上登記試駕的人數超過50000人，但受到當地氫氣加油站不足的限制，HONDA是心有餘而力不足。
