世紀合作，美國GM集團和日本HONDA簽署共同開發燃料電池相關技術協議

燃料電池也就是未來電動車以外的另一種零廢氣排放動力選項，繼日本TOYOTA以及BMW達成協議，共同開發燃料電池車且預告在2015年問世量產後，NISSAN以及Daimler集團、美國FORD也已經2013年初在展開合作，預計在2017年推出第一款燃料電池車款。當日本兩大車廠都找到穩固的合作對象時，手中已經握有燃料電池技術的HONDA也開始進一步研發新世代燃料電池系統。
向來在燃料電池領域中單打獨鬥的HONDA，日前宣佈和美國GM集團簽暑共同開發燃料電池的協議，並且追隨日本其它兩家汽車大廠的腳步，預計在2020年時推出首款雙方合作開發燃料電池車。其中，HONDA以及GM集團的合作內容不只有燃料電池技術的研發，還有車輛氫氣儲存系統以及補充燃料站的基礎建設。
事實上HONDA以及GM集團的關係，可追朔到1990年代HONDA與英國ROVER的車款合作。然後再到1996年至1999年間HONDA以及ISUZU的共同開發計畫。當時HONDA提供Domani以及Accord給予缺乏轎車的ISUZU來延伸陣容，而ISUZU則給予HONDA Rodeo以及Trooper兩款休旅車款，而這些都合作都和美國GM集團有著深厚的關係，也奠定了這次燃料電池車款的共同開發計畫。
而兩家車廠在燃料電池車的成就上，HONDA早在2002年就有先行小額量產85輛FCX燃料電池車租賃的服務，直到2007年新一代FCX Clarity問世後，所搭載的V Flow FC燃料電池，已經擁有630km的續航能耐。動力則有136hp最大馬力與26.1kgm峰值扭力的表現；極速可達160km/h，完全符合一般民眾用車的習慣。

至於美國GM集團則是從2007年開始，就陸續製造出119輛的CHEVROLET Equinox燃料電池車，並從同年10月起配置於美國加州、華盛頓以及紐約市區等提供民眾試駕。到目前為止也已經累計超過300萬英里的燃料電池車輛行駛距離，而這樣的績效也遠超過其它車廠的技術累計，對於未來燃料電池車的開發也都有很大幫助。

而燃料電池車是利用氫氣及氧氣的化學反應，產生電流並供給車輛上的電動馬達來驅動車輛，加上燃料電池車每補充一次燃料可行駛的距離比電動車還要遠，且補給時間也較短，還有氫、氧在化學反應後也只會產生水的副產品，幾乎無汙染，因此燃料電池也被視為未來環保替代能源的選項之一。
不過目前所遭遇的困難，除了燃料電池車輛成本仍高昂外，車輛加氣站以及燃料加壓系統的設置，都比起電動車的週邊系統還更繁雜。所以若要大幅降低開發成本，和其它車廠合作開發絕對是有必要的，目前日本TOYOTA、NISSAN、HONDA三大車廠都已經找到合作對象，接下來德國VW集團以及韓國HYUNDAI 汽車的走向也就成了各界矚目的焦點。
