    有誰比我紅?HONDA第一代Life紅線轉速10500rpm!

以機車引擎起家的HONDA,於1963年以商用貨車T360正式進軍乘用車領域,隨後更推出S500、N360等膾炙人口的車款,其中1971年問世的Life,雖然名氣沒有同時期誕生的Civic大,但所搭載的EA 356cc引擎,可是具有超過1萬轉的實力。

向來HONDA的引擎多以高轉速著稱,尤其機車的引擎轉速更能輕輕鬆鬆超過10000rpm,而四輪乘用車方面旗下的S2000紅線區直逼9000rpm,同樣以操控著稱的MAZDA RX-8,轉子引擎更達9500rpm,這除了表示引擎的能耐,,更可看得出車廠的功力,但進入高轉速並非好事,除非能持久,否則對引擎來說是一大傷害。

不過在HONDA的發展史上,紅線區落在1萬轉以上者不多見,最經典的莫過於1971年Life,所搭載的EA系列引擎,雖然排氣量僅356cc,但加裝來自CB機車的水冷系統後,獲得8.8:1的壓縮比,並有30hp/8000rpm、21hp/6500rpm兩種馬力輸出,以及2.6kgm/6400rpm扭力表現,但真正令人驚歎的,在於這具引擎的紅線區極限為10500rpm,也就是說到了紅線區再進行換檔一點也不是問題。

然而進入紅線區雖然看起來很厲害,實際上要快快收油門或進行升檔,因為這裡是引擎極限所在,也就是曲軸最高的平衡點,如果持續在停留在這區域,絕對會發生悲劇,肯定自廢武功、動力心臟走入歷史,所以現在多有ECU電腦來控制轉速。至於當時Life的EA引擎何以能有如此高轉速?或許那時HONDA才剛從機車領域轉型,還將高轉速列為最高原則吧!
