HONDA在推出搭載於第八代Civic之新世代1.8升引擎的同時，也同步推出了全新的Hybrid油電混合動力系統。
HONDA 全新Hybrid油電混合動力系統，是以一具1.3升i-VTEC引擎與IMA電動馬達轉換系統相結合，其中1.3升i-VTEC引擎採用最新的三階段VTEC機制，可依狀況與轉速分別調整進汽門正時，可輸出95hp最大馬力與12.5kgm最大扭力，而電動馬達部分，則具有20hp的最大馬力輸出，在全動力輸出情況下，汽油引擎與電動馬達共可輸出115hp最大馬力，與17kgm最大扭力。
這套全新的油電混合動力系統，採用全新的蓄電池，體積較以往更小，整體的耐用度與冷卻效果都有所精進；引擎部分採鋁合金缸體與活塞，經特殊處理，減少摩擦阻力，並達到更好的散熱效果。
一如以往的油電混合系統，HONDA 全新推出的該系統，同樣可依行車狀況調整汽油引擎與電動馬達的輸出比例，當車輛暫停時，引擎會自動熄火，當採下油門時先以電動馬達起步，而當速度增加或是重採油門時，才會在啟動汽油引擎，同時在煞車時，同樣會將煞車的熱能轉變為電能，儲存於蓄電池中。該系統預計2006年搭載於第八代Civic Hybrid上。
