有越來越多的人注意到Hybrid的存在，可能是從報章雜誌上得知，也有可能是與周遭朋友聊天時談起，這種種情形只證明一件事，Hybrid氣勢正旺。分析家認為，市場上越來越多的需求，將會促使Hybrid技術精益求精，衍生出更為優良的第二代車款。身為消費者的我們，只需要睜大眼睛，仔細看清楚在未來幾年，Hybrid和柴油、氫氣、酒精等燃料，將會怎樣的演化蛻變，怎樣的改變我們對石油的需求。
美國一家著名的汽車科技雜誌，拿現在最受歡迎的兩部Hybrid車款，HONDA Civic Hybrid和TOYOTA Highlander Limited Hybrid做比較測試，看看與一般車款相比，Hybrid車款究竟有多麼與眾不同。雖然在台灣的我們對於Hybrid車款的了解，理論性多於實戰性，雖然TOYOTA Prius已在2006年初正式在台灣推出，但在街道上還是只能偶爾驚鴻一瞥其身影。因此在Hybrid熱潮席捲台灣小島之前，我們不妨聽聽國外的朋友怎麼說吧！
測試員對於第二代1.3升引擎的HONDA Civic頗有微辭。雖然搭配了比上一代更有力的電動引擎，但比之前強勁18%的力道，卻不足以讓它受到測試員的青睞，因為加速的速度太慢了！雖然這台車具備了所有Hybrid車款都擁有的優點，那就是路上行駛安靜無聲。
但是除非你不太常使用油門，不然的話單單使用電池行駛，很容易就用到沒電，這時候你就會明白1.3升引擎究竟有多慢了！測試員非常推崇它的省油表現，但不建議大家都花美金1800（約台幣5.4萬元）購買這台車，若真非得買車，倒不如買一般Civic來的划算。
TOYOTA的Highlander Limited Hybrid就不一樣了，測試員對它的省油與性能表現，讚不絕口。它不但比汽油版的Highlander省油，甚至以更快的時間加速至96公里。雖然比HONDA Civic Hybrid多了三個人的重量，但其實不易察覺。測試員因此認為多花美金4500（約台幣13.5萬元）非常值得。
