    日本名車系列(172)-HONDA Prelude(1996-2001)

1996年11月7日正式登場的第五代Prelude,嚴格來說整個設計概念重新回到第三代,大走方正剛硬的路線,在獨特雙門造型與強調乘坐空間的同時,縱型頭燈組可算是相當創新風格,整體造型和第二代非常神似,不過與第四代相比乘坐空間更為人性化。此外電動天窗則頭一回變成選配,並採用玻璃材質設定,路線上回歸到第三代。

內裝鋪陳和設定回歸到第三代路線,大走精簡路線,卻在設計師的巧私下增加更多置物空間,而恆溫空調、CD音響主機等也都成為全車系標配,不過乘坐空間依然是2+2的配置,後座的乘坐舒適性相當低,與1990年代的玩樂主義背道而馳。

原本HONDA希望以Inspire與Accord底盤平台為基礎,來打造第五代Prelude,主要是能有效降低成本,但後卻在工程師與高層的堅持下設計出專屬平台,此舉不僅使得第五代Prelude的售價更貴,影響在RV風盛行的市場銷售,同時也因成本過高種下日後HONDA決定停產的舉動。

動力方面承襲第四代的設定,強調運動路線的分別是頂級Type S與SiR S Spec,搭載H22A直四VTEC引擎與高壓縮化的活塞形狀,得以發揮220hp的馬力,同時在Type S也增加全新開發的ATTS(Active Torque Transfer System)左右動態扭力分配系統,SiR S Spec則使用LSD(Limited Slip Differential gear)限滑差速器,因此在動態表現與穩定性都算是歷代Prelude最強。同時第五代Prelude更首度採用HONDA新開發的S Matic四速手自排變速系統給消費者選擇,當然也提供傳統五速手排變速箱。此外也有2.2升DOHC中輸出功率和SOHC入門款,然而卻難敵RV產品的魅力。

2001年耐不住成本壓力,成功橫掃市場長達23年的Prelude終於在原廠忍痛決定下劃下句點,並將車型與新Integra進行整合,但在不少日本人和北美民眾眼裡,Prelude似乎也成就不少愛情故事。
