「好開，真的很好開！」，這可是三本和彥老爹對HONDA S500的評語，很難得他老人家對車子會讚不絕口，但是……還是有問題，「因為仍有一些不算小的缺點」！
話說1963年HONDA推出膾炙人口的敞篷小跑車S500，531cc的排氣量雖然僅發揮40hp馬力，但引擎轉速直上8000rpm的功力，再加上罕見的DOHC雙凸輪軸引擎，都在當時創造不少話題，而咱們三本老爹也非常認同S500的優點，他說40多年前試車時就對優異的底盤與靈活性印象深刻，尤其高轉速引擎跑起來更是輕快，但是S500仍有不小的缺憾，那就是耐久性、穩定性與維修便利實在表現不佳。
舉例來說，引擎轉速雖然能拉至8000轉，但快接近這個極限時，引擎的轉開始不順暢，且高速運轉與行駛太久的話，總會聽到引擎運轉有些雜音，感覺上好像快掛掉的樣子，而維修時因為零件線組非常多，且各種零組件塞在小空間裡，所以要維修引擎的困難度頗高，偶爾還必須拆卸一堆東西才能到達目的地，困難重重啊！
然而對於這具直四DOHC引擎，三本老爹認為這可是當時技術上的寶石，也是全球汽車動力的最高峰，當然本田宗一郎還是最厲害的傢伙。
